JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas --

Nearly 30 Airmen from the 59th Medical Wing took to the court at the AT&T Center on Dec. 2, to serve in the Living Flag detail before the San Antonio Spurs took on the Portland Trailblazers.

For the detail, Airmen were responsible for holding an American flag that stretched across nearly the entire length and breadth of the basketball court, remaining in place during the singing of the national anthem.

“I volunteered because was my first NBA game ever and basketball is my favorite sport,” said Senior Airman Brendan X. Mason, public health technician. “It’s really important that we, as military members, get out and show our support back to the community.”

The Airmen participated in the special detail as part of the Spurs organization’s special salute to the Air Force night.

“It felt great to support my country and to have the chance to watch my favorite pastime,” said Mason.

Each of them, along with additional 59th MDW Airmen and their families, were able to watch the Spurs defeat the Trailblazers and pick up a commemorative Spurs/AF t-shirt.
