OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS (ORTA)

59 MDW/ST ORTA is your “one stop shop” for clinical research technology transfer (T2) assistance. We support translation of clinical research into practice, facilitate clinical researchers’ collaborations with industry and academia, and enable 59 MDW Primary Investigators to reap benefits from research investments. T2 is the exchange of knowledge, expertise, facilities, equipment, personnel, methods, technical information and/or intellectual property.

T2 Process:

  • Draft the Agreement
  • Review for Legal Sufficiency
  • Conduct Collaboration Review
  • Execute the Agreement
  • Enter into Defense Technology Transfer Information System (DTTIS)

Most Common T2 Mechanisms:

  • Collaborative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) between government and university or company to conduct research together
  • Material Transfer Agreement (Special CRADA-MTA)  permits exchange of material/specimens for test evaluation and research data
  • License Agreement (LA)  allows use of patented and other protected technology
